Uniform Crime Report Part 1 Crime Definitions

Crimes Against Persons- rape, robbery, homicide & aggravated assault.
Rape- the carnal knowledge of a female forcibly against her will. Assaults and attempts to commit rape are included, statutory (without force) and other sex crimes are not.
Robbery- the taking or attempting to take anything of value from the care, custody, or control of a person or persons by force or the threat of force or violence and/or by putting the victim in fear.
Aggravated assault- an unlawful attack by one person upon another for the purpose of inflicting severe or aggravated bodily injury.
Crimes Against Property- burglary, theft & auto theft.
Burglary- the unlawful entry of a structure to commit a felony or theft. The use of force to gain entry is not required to classify an offense as a burglary.
Larceny-Theft- the unlawful taking, carrying, or riding away of property from the posession or constructive posession of another.
Auto Theft- the theft or attempted theft of a motor vehicle, excludes the taking of a motor vehicle for temporary use by those persons having lawful access.
